We are bombarded with information about health and nutrition, we know that food choices we make are important factors in health. However this awareness doesn’t necessarily translates into better food choices. Most people make food choices for reasons other than nutrient value. Did you know that taste and price are top two considerations when purchasing food? Food and Health Survey Food Decision 2016: The Impact of a Growing National Food Dialogue, commissioned by the International Food Information Council (IFIC) Foundation shows that taste is the most important factor when it comes to purchasing food. The survey reports that 83% of those polled consider taste to impact their food preferences and 68% price. Healthfulness came in at number 3 with 60%. This is consistent with results from surveys conducted in the past ten years. Check the Figure below!
